Care for veterans and eligible family members in the Dominican Republic. Our team works with patients using these programs and helps clarify the next steps before a visit.
Coverage depends on your eligibility, plan, provider and the care you need. Confirm the arrangements with our team before assuming that a service is covered or that no payment is due.
FMP
Understand FMP coverage
FMP generally covers eligible care related to a VA-rated, service-connected disability overseas. It is not blanket insurance for all care. VA says you may choose a licensed local provider; that does not make the clinic a VA facility.
TRICARE requires a TRICARE-authorized provider for covered care. Network status, referrals, payment arrangements and your plan matter. Check the official directory and confirm your situation with the overseas contractor before assuming a visit is covered.
CHAMPVA is separate from FMP and TRICARE. Its guide explains benefits abroad and applicable cost sharing. Ask whether the provider accepts assignment, what you must pay and who files the claim. Confirm the clinic’s payment and claim arrangements before booking.
Official sources checked October 5, 2026. Program information is general guidance; your payer determines individual benefits.
Good to know
Your questions, answered.
Does listing my program mean every visit is covered?+
No. Coverage depends on your eligibility, the service, provider requirements and your program’s rules. Confirm these details before the appointment.
What should I ask about payment?+
Ask whether you need to pay anything, who submits the claim and how you can receive an itemized bill and supporting records.
What if I do not know which program I have?+
Start with your benefits or insurance documents. Contact the program that issued them and then tell our team what you learned so you can discuss your visit.
